In Isogen, the isometric drawing style controls all the options related to the drawing and report appearance and information content produced during isometric drawing generation. Each isometric drawing style contains a group of properties that control some aspect of the drawings and reports that are produced by 2D piping solutions and 3D plant design software products.

ISOGEN Configuration provides a single, streamlined interface for setting isometric drawing style properties. As such, its environment provides easy access to Isogen's substantial array of controls and files and enables you to configure projects quickly and efficiently. ISOGEN Configuration organizes drawing controls into the categories listed below.

  • Drawing Manager sets options for system controls, including pre- and post-processors and the names of the input files used by Isogen. The Drawing Manager category also includes properties that define the content and layout of output reports. For more information, see Drawing Manager.

  • Drawing Area controls the content that displays on the isometric drawing. The Drawing Area category also includes properties the define how to represent pipeline components on the drawing. For more information, see Drawing Area.

  • Dimensions controls the display and format of dimensions and coordinate data on the isometric drawing. For more information, see Dimensions.

  • Drawing Border specifies the attributes plotted on the drawing frame, as well as their placement within the drawing frame. The Drawing Border category also includes properties that define symbol shape positioning. For more information, see Drawing Border.

  • Materials defines the position, format, and contents of the parts list. For more information, see Materials.

  • Welds and Joints controls the display of welds on the isometric drawing. The Welds and Joints category also includes properties that set options for weld-specific reports. The weld list is the report that appears in the drawing, while the weld list summary contains the weld data formatted in a text file. For more information, see Welds and Joints.

  • Spools defines spool attribute data output on the isometric drawing. The Spools category also includes properties that define spool attribute data to summary report files, such as the spool information file. For more information, see Spools.

  • Cut Pieces sets properties for the cut list, which provides a list of pipes that are cut into smaller lengths during construction. You can also define the layout of the fixed and user-defined cut list formats and set options for the cut list summary file. Properties are also available for controlling cut length calculations. For more information, see Cut Pieces.

  • CADWorx defines mapping between CADWorx custom data and Isogen PCF component, weld, and material attributes. This category is available only if you are working with a CADWorx-enabled project. For more information, see CADWorx.

  • Smart 3D contains Smart 3D-specific properties that define drawing output. This category is available only if you are working with a Smart 3D model. For more information, see Smart 3D.

Smart 3D models

For a Smart 3D model, the groups of options that are available for each style group is based on the type of isometric drawing style that is active, such as pipeline, HVAC, or cable tray. The following example shows how the content of the Content style group changes depending on the active isometric drawing style: Iso_Piping (1) Iso_HVAC (2) or Iso_CableTray (3).

If you are using ISOGEN Configuration with the current version of Smart 3D, cable tray and HVAC isometric drawing options are limited to beta access. As such, drawing options specific to cable tray and HVAC isometrics are not visible in ISOGEN Configuration by default. To turn on cable tray and HVAC options so that you have access to the full array of drawing settings when configuring Smart 3D isometric drawings, please contact PPM Smart Community.

When you select a cable tray or HVAC isometric drawing style in the Management Console and open ISOGEN Configuration, the software may also restrict the drawing properties that are available for editing. The next example shows how the software populates the group of Components options, depending on which isometric drawing style that is active: Piping (1) or HVAC (2).
