Before you import a piping design file, you must be logged in to a project. For more information, see Log in to a project.

Single file import

  1. Click Project > Import Files > File.

    The software opens the Import dialog box.

  2. Browse to the folder location that contains the data file to import. By default, Spoolgen looks in the Imports folder of the current project for the data files. After you have located and loaded a file, the software remembers this location and uses the same location for subsequent imports.

  3. Select the file to import. The software imports .idf, .pcf, .sup, and .mod file formats.

    Use the Files of Type list to switch between the supported piping file formats.

  4. Click Open.

    The software begins importing the file and displays a status message in the Graphics window. When the import is complete and the pipeline is added to the project, the software prompts you to check out and open the file.

  5. Click Yes in the confirmation box.

    Optionally, click No to check out the pipeline later.

    The software displays the fully defined pipeline in the Graphics window.

Batch file import

  1. Click Project > Import Files > File.

  2. Browse to the folder location containing the data files to import.

  3. Press the CTRL key, and select each of the files to import. The software imports .idf, .pcf, .sup, and .mod file formats.

    Use the Files of Type list to switch between the supported piping file formats.

  4. After you have selected all the files to import, click OK.

    Each pipeline is processed and saved as a .pod file in the appropriate folder location. After import processing completes, the software displays a message box. Click Yes to view the log file, or click No to close the message box without viewing the log file.

  • The type of project to which you are currently connected determines where the software saves imported design files.

    • IsogenDB projects: The software saves imported files in the Pipes folder of the IsogenDB project.

    • Spoolgen projects: The software saves imported files in the Pipes and SGImport folders of the Spoolgen project.

  • If the pipeline fails to import due to bad data or some other inconsistency within the design file, the software displays an error message.

  • The software writes import processing results to a message file. This message file reports any irregularities or errors that the software encountered while importing the piping data file and is useful in troubleshooting import failures. The type of project to which you are currently connected determines the file name and location of the message file.

    • IsogenDB projects: The software writes results to the Import.mes file and saves the file to the Import\Messages folder of the IsogenDB project.

    • Spoolgen projects: The software writes results to the SGImport.mes file and saves the file to the SGImport.Messages folder of the Spoolgen project.

  • Batch import processing results are written to the SGBatchImport.log file and saved to your local Temp folder.

  • To view the contents of the log file or message file, open the file using a standard text editor such as Microsoft Notepad.
