File > Import > OBJ Files

Allows you to import a Wavefront 3D geometry .obj file that contains 3D graphic information such as vertices, normals, and UV coordinates. Optionally, an .obj file can include material (.mtl) files and image or texture (.jpg/.png/.bmp) files. When you import, Smart Review groups all objects in the .obj files in a selected folder as a single display set. Smart Review takes the folder name and creates a display set of the same name.

You can import multiple .obj files; each .obj file can be placed in the same folder or in subfolders. Because Smart Review creates a display set from the selected folder, you can have one display set made up of multiple objects in multiple .obj files, or you can have a single object in one .obj file in the selected folder. This provides you the flexibility to manipulate a single imported, object or a group of objects from one or more .obj files.

  1. Select File > Import > OBJ Files, and then select the folder containing the .obj file and any supporting material and graphics or texture files. The example below shows the BoxStack3 folder with three subfolders (Box1-3). Each subfolder contains an .obj file, a graphics .png file, and associated material files.

Smart Review creates a display set with the name of the selected folder. In the example, Smart Review creates the BoxStack3 display set.

  2. Open Project Manager to see the created display set. The software lists each imported object display set under the OBJ Files folder as shown below.

  3. You can now perform operations to manipulate the objects as you would with any display set; the software saves the display set definitions. However, you cannot save or export the 3D objects contained in these display sets.
