The Transmittance threshold from 0 to 1 option specifies a global threshold that determines whether a material is transparent. Set this option to 0 to turn on transparency in the Renderer window, or set the option to 1 to remove all transparency. The the Transmittance intensity values affect the Transmittance threshold of a material. To see the current Transmittance intensity value for different materials, go to Tools > Materials > Edit Materials, then select a Palette and select a Material name.

Example

To see the transparency or transmittance threshold, open the sprdemo.vue sample file, and select the LumYEL_1xTr material in the PRIMARYCOLOR.PAL palette:

  1. Go to Tools > Materials > Edit Materials.
    OR
Tools > Materials > Assign Materials.

  2. Select PRIMARYCOLOR.PAL for the Palette, and select LumYEL_1xTr for the Material name.

  3. Check the Transmittance value and change it to .51.. By default, the option is set to 0.

To see the object to which you assigned the LumYEL_1xTr material in the Renderer:

  1. Select the object in the Main view.

  2. Click View > Photo-Realism > Renderer.

The Renderer opens displaying selected object.

  3. To change the transparency, click View > Settings > Photo-Realism > Raytrace tab, and then type in or move the Transmittance Threshold from 0 to 1 slider.

The figure below shows a pipe assigned to the yellow material having the 50% transparency.

In this example, changing the Transmittance Threshold to a value between .51 and 1 turns off transparency for the material, as shown in the following figure.

  4. Click OK to close the dialog box, and then click Reload in the Renderer window to see the updated material opacity.

Each time you change the Transmittance threshold option, you must reload the Renderer to see the updated material opacity.

  5. Change the Transmittance option until you get the required transparency.

  6. Click OK to close the dialog box.

Increasing the Transmittance threshold can significantly increase performance.
