Settings in the View Cone tab in the View Settings dialog box enable you to define values for near and far clipping plane distances for certain operations that involve fitting the view. Alternatively, you can set the Near and Far clipping plane distances to none so that Smart Review sets them internally to avoid clipping any model data.

To further refine your clipping distance values to have more control over the Smart Review Fit operations, select a Fit option in the Advanced tab in the View Settings dialog box. The selected fit option works in conjunction with the Near and Far clipping plane values. They enable you to basically turn clipping off, include clipping distances in the fit, or allow Smart Review to set to automatically calculate the clipping plane values.

  1. Open the Plan and Elevation views to see the vew cone as you position it.

  2. Click View > Settings > View, and then click the View Cone tab.

  3. Set the Near and Far clipping plane distance values. You can set the Near and Far clipping plane values to none to avoid clipping any model data.

  4. Click OK.
    -OR-
    Click Apply to continue.

    OPTIONAL:

  5. Click the Advanced tab.

  6. Set one of the following Fit options that meets your requirements:

    • Clear clipping distances - Sets the Near and Far clipping plane values to none in the View Cones tab. No clipping is done during Fit operations.

    • Keep clipping distances - Uses the defined Near and Far clipping plane values for Fit operations.

    • Offset using clipping distances - Uses the defined Near and Far clipping plane values as an offset or buffer for Fit operations.

    • Auto-set clipping distances - Clears any defined near and far clipping values and uses new clipping distances set by Smart Review to automatically clip the fitted range.

For more information about the clipping distance options for Smart Review, see Advanced Tab (View Settings Dialog Box).

  7. Click OK.

  • The limits of your view are defined by the far-clipping plane and the near-clipping plane. You see whatever lies between the two planes.

  • The Reference clipping plane setting allows you to choose Eye point, North, East, or Elevation for the reference point.

  • You can also set the clipping planes interactively by dragging the plane with the mouse. You can right-click or press ESC to cancel the clipping plane adjustment without saving the changes. Any changes to the clipping planes made in this manner can be reversed using the Edit > Undo command.

  • You can maintain your current encircle clipping plane settings when you switch from any of the encircle positioning modes back to the lateral positioning mode by turning On the Motion > Positioning Modes > Maintain Encircle Clipping command.

  • You can maintain your current lateral clipping plane settings when you switch from the lateral positioning mode to any of the encircle positioning modes by turning Off the Motion > Positioning Modes > Clip to Encircle Sphere command.
