Optimization is not guaranteed to return the best result. Optimization might not even return the same result from two optimization runs with same parameters. As the number of panels in the system grows, the computational difficulty of the optimization grows exponentially. It is not possible to go through all possible combinations of panels.

Frozen zone in panel optimization

You must set the frozen zone at the beginning of the panel work queue. When the optimizer encounters the first unfrozen panel, all panels after that are considered unfrozen regardless of their actual status.

Optimization settings display at the top and in the middle of the screen. The scheduling rules are the same as for regular scheduling. The execution time can also be set.

The execution time is the maximum allowed time for the optimization. The optimization stops when time runs out, and the currently best result is returned.

You can use the line chart to configure the weight of different optimization parameters. Drag the circles on the line to adjust the line. Click Balance to return the weights to their default value of 25%. The line chart parameters are listed below.

Leadtime

Specifies the time from the start date of the first panel to the end date of the last panel on the panel line. Increasing the percentage forces the optimizer to minimize lead time.

Lateness

Specifies the total lateness of each panel summed together. Increasing the percentage forces the optimizer to minimize lateness.

Earliness

Specifies the total earliness of each panel summed together. Increasing the percentage forces the optimizer to minimize earliness.

Scattering

Increases the percentage forces the optimizer to minimize scattering. For more information, see User interface.

You use the bottom part of the screen to control the optimization and optimization results. Click Optimize to start panel optimization. After optimization is finished, a new row is inserted to the Results list.

The Results list always contains two rows: Current and In Gantt.

Current

Shows the result which is currently in database.

In Gantt

Shows the result which is currently shown in the Gantt chart. The new optimization results are named ResultX, where X indicates the sequence number of the optimization result.

The Results list shows leadtime, earliness, lateness, and scattering for each result. For new results, the used parameter percentages are also shown.

The bar chart on the right side of the screen graphically displays the selected result.

After an optimization result has been selected from the result list, click Show in Gantt to see the optimization on the Gantt chart. The optimization result can then be updated into the database by selecting the menu bar option Optimization > Accept Current Plan. After that, the new optimization is in database and is shown in Work Queue.
