There is three ways to add items to base document

Insert Inventory can be used to add new stock items (plates and profiles) to the active document. The stock item can be added to inventory by clicking Insert.
Articles
The stock items can be added to physical inventory based on articles by selecting the Articles tab.
In Stock
The stock items can be added to physical inventory based on items in stock by selecting the In Stock tab.
