Drawn elements form the shape of a part, but do not contain the necessary attributes used in nesting and cutting path creation. You need to convert elements to a part so that the software can use the part in the nesting work area. When you convert elements to a part, the software creates the outer profile and the necessary count of inner profiles. The software also inserts start locations in the profiles.

The graphic below shows two circle elements (on the left) that have been converted to a part (on the right). The elements form the inner and outer profiles of the part. The part also includes start locations.

To convert elements to a part, click Elements to Part Elements to Part_ICON on the State Manager.

The convert buttons are available only when no objects or tools are active.

The following conversion commands are available.

Elements to Part

Converts the elements to a part.

Part to Elements

Converts the part to elements.

When you click Elements to Part Elements to Part_ICON, the software checks for overlapping elements. An Unresolved Conflicts warning message displays in the work area if any overlapping elements exist. The Solver displays a list of overlapping elements. Double-click an error message in the Solver to zoom in to the error in the work area. You must correct overlaps before you can convert elements to a part.

The Connect Elements and Profiler settings control how the software converts elements to profiles. Click Settings on the toolbar to access these settings.

The software adds start locations to profiles, and the area between the inner and out profiles displays as gray to indicate a successful conversion.

You can insert technology objects into elements (with the exception of bevels, which you must insert prior to conversion).
