In case a company is taken over by another company or two companies decide to merge, you can use the Merge functionality to merge the two companies in Smart Materials. When you click Merge and then select the companies you want to merge, then the application displays Merge Companies page with the following tabs:

Company Types - specifies the assigned company types for company 1 and company 2.

Addresses - specifies the different address types for company 1 and company 2.

Contacts - specifies the contact persons and the communication types for each company.

Descriptions - specifies all the translated descriptions for each company.

Others - specifies various details such as Parent Company, Symbol Code and so on for each company.

Usages - specifies where the selected companies are used. For each usage, you must decide whether you want to switch from usage between the companies. If you do not replace the usage, the company associated with an object remains unchanged and hence, the company will not be deleted at the end of the merging process and the company code is updated instead. This is done to clearly show the user that this company is in fact deleted and obsolete and only kept for historic reasons.

Replacing usages can lead to unique key violations. Before actually performing the merge, the application checks for unique key violations. If any violations are found, the application provides appropriate warning and gives the option to change your selections.

Merge Conditions - Specifies the merge conditions for merging the companies. You can either dissolve company 1 or company 2 to merge the companies or creating a new company altogether.

If you choose to dissolve company 1, the usage of company 1 switch to company 2, and company 1 is deleted and vice versa. You do not have to select any option in other tabs.

If you choose to create a new company, you must enter a new company code and company name for the new company. With this option, the application creates a new company and both the companies are deleted at the end of the merge process.
