In a position, a part number (Ident) is generally allocated with a quantity and identity-shaping properties. A position can include an assembly defined in the parts master. All the positions or structures (assembly/assemblies) of an assembly are adopted into/under the position in the engineering bill of materials exploded within the Include Assemblies page. This gives you the opportunity to transfer project-specific assemblies into the bill of materials and change their property values. The assemblies can also be exploded by a procedure and copied to the bill of materials.

You can initiate this procedure with a job. For an ident, you can add assembly components, i.e. what all components are sub-parts of the specified ident using the Assemblies button in the following ways:

  1. Once a position with the ident is added, if you select the position and go to the Include Assemblies tab, you can run a job and add these assembly components as sub-positions to the position.

  2. If any changes were made to the ident midway, the Reconcile assemblies tab reflects the corresponding changes to the position.

  3. If you receive BOM via import, then if you already have assemblies available. To reflect them back to ident structure, you can use this the Generate Assembly Structure tab. This is like a reverse process.

Take a look at this video to understand how to build a BOM assembly structure using the Maintain BOM page
