What are position properties used for?

You can use position properties to add information to BOM positions in addition to the ident descriptions. Position property definitions are discipline specific. But there is one important restriction that applies to this page. No duplication of data is allowed, that is, if you enter a property on the first tab, you will not be able to enter it again on the other tabs. In other words, each property and each order sequence number must be unique in its assignment context.

  1. On the Home page, click Bill of Materials > SETUP > Position Properties.

  2. Select the appropriate Discipline from the select list.

  3. To assign properties to a position, do the following:

    1. Click Add Row.

    2. Enter the order sequence in the Seq cell and then select the appropriate Property from the select list.

    3. From Mandatory, select Yes if you want to specify that a value entry for this property is mandatory.

This only applies to BOM positions entered manually.

    4. Optionally, click Target Node List to select the appropriate List Node, and click Submit.

When you select a Target Node, the property is only added to the positions of that node.

    5. From Include Sub Nodes, select Yes to indicate that the property is also assigned to the sub-node positions of the selected target node.

  4. To define group dependent properties, do the following:

    2. Enter the order sequence in the Seq cell, and then select the appropriate Property from the select list.

    3. To assign the commodity group, select the appropriate Group from the select list.

    4. From Mandatory, select Yes if you want to specify that a value entry for this property is mandatory.

5. To define part dependent properties, do the following:

  1. From the Positions Properties page, click the Part Dependent Properties tab, and click Add Row.

  2. Enter the order sequence in the Seq cell, and then select the appropriate Property from the select list.

  3. To assign a commodity group, select the appropriate Group from the select list.

  4. To assign the commodity part, select the appropriate Part from the select list.

  5. From Mandatory, select Yes if you want to specify that a value entry for this property is mandatory.
