  1. In a web browser, type the Smart Materials Web URL and press Enter.

  2. Type the Username and Password.

  3. If you want to change the default application language, select the Language from the drop-down.

With the selected value, you define the language of the displayed UI elements. Depending on the specified glossary-language mappings, you can either select a glossary or a glossary-language mapping (see Define Glossary-Language Mappings).

  4. Select the required Data Language from the drop-down and then click Login.

    • The default data language is fetched from the BI_REPORT_DATA_LANGUAGE DBA setting.

    • Language specific descriptions and MAR messages are displayed using the selected data language.

    • ORA messages are displayed using browser language settings.

    • You can login only once to Smart Materials Web within a browser session.

    • Log file created by login: m_bireport_api_......log.

  5. If 2FA (two-factor authentication) is enabled, enter the verification code you've received with an email and click Verify.

  6. Select the required Project and Discipline from the drop-down.

    • Project - Project-specific material is defined at the project level. It is common for a project to reference the product group as much as possible and only create project-specific material definitions when the code cannot be included in the corporate standard. Data defined in a project will not be available on the product group level or in any other project.

    • Discipline – Disciplines are used to separate materials into different project areas like Piping, Electrical, and Structural.

All the modules are available on the Home screen.

  7. If you want to change the current role, click Other Links > Settings and select a Role from the list in the Session Settings dialog and click Apply.

Login to Smart Materials Web creates a stacked role, if more than one role is available for the current user/project/discipline combination. This stacked role includes all access rights, privileges and query-able disciplines of all these available roles. This temporary stacked role will be deleted on logout/end of session.

  8. Click the required module.

For data protection and consistency while working with multiple tabs of a browser, it is recommended to clone your session instead of duplicating tabs. In case of duplication, Smart Materials requires you to refresh the page and a forced refresh message is displayed. The Smart Materials application loads the latest content when you:

  • refresh the page

  • switch between tabs

  • cancel/close the message

Smart Materials does not support duplication within the same module but supports duplication across modules. It is always recommended to use cloning instead of duplicating a tab.

Opening the login page from a parallel tab will end all other sessions in all tabs of the same browser. The same applies if pressing Logout in the application.
