10.1

If you migrate from version 2016 R1 – R3 (8.1.x – 8.3.x) to Smart Materials 2016 R4 (8.4.0) or higher, you might want to return seats that had been reserved in SPLM before you start the migration. This might be required if you send the journal files to Intergraph. Stop the license service application pool in IIS manager and do a last scavenge in SPLM afterwards.

If you have SPLM server with the key in it on the same machine as SPLM client, the above step can be specially important, as an ISL client installation on the same machine will remove SPLM and you can no longer return seats to this keystore then.

The migration installation itself is not much different than a fresh install. Migration needs to be done offline. This is, users cannot work in the application during the migration process. You may install ISL client software on the same machine as the SPLM client was installed before. This will automatically replace the SPLM installation on this machine. Note, that you must have a cci file ready when you install the ISL client.

Like with SPLM client, Smart Materials license service needs to run on the same machine as ISL client. The new version of the license service can be installed over a previous installation. The order is not important whether you install the license webservice first, or the ISL client.

The Smart Materials database will not be touched by the license service setup. Nor is it required to restart the database after installation. Just make sure that the correct license service URL is referred to from the database. In case you install the license webservice with ISL on a different machine, make sure that the DB access control list is allowing the database to make connections to the host.
