Purpose

This section explains how to define the WBS (Work Breakdown Structure) in the E&PI (BOM) module of Smart Materials. This WBS is needed to gather BOM data.

Exercise

  1. Open the B.20.03 Adv. Maintain BOM screen from the menu branch Smart Materials > E&PI (BOM) > B.20 Maintain BOM.

  2. Right-click in the node tree on the left, and select Add Root Node.

    The software opens a new window for you to define the root node.

  3. Click the List of Values button, and the software automatically inserts DISC into the Node Type field.

    Enter PIPING in the Name field and Piping in the Short Desc and Description fields.

  4. Click the button to close the window and to create the new WBS root node.

  5. Right-click the new node PIPING in the node tree on the left side, and select Add Child Node.

    The software opens a new window for you to define the child node under the PIPING root node.

  6. Click the List of Values button, and the software automatically inserts UNIT into the Node Type field.

    Enter A100 in the Name field and A100 in the Short Desc and Description fields.

  7. Click the button to close the window and to create the new WBS node.

  8. Right-click the new node A100 in the node tree on the left , and select Add Child Node.

    The software opens a new window for you to define a child node under the A100 node.

  9. Click the List of Values button, and the software automatically inserts LINE into the Node Type field.

    Enter NF-12004 in the Name field and NF-12004 in the Short Desc and Description fields.

  10. Click the button to close the window and to create the new WBS node.

  11. Right-click the new node NF-12004 in the node tree on the left, and select Add Child Node.

    The software opens a new window to define a child node under the NF-12004 node.

  12. Click the List of Values button, and the software automatically inserts SHEET into the Node Type field.

    Enter 01 in the Name field and Sheet 01 in the Short Desc and Description fields.

  13. Click the button to close the window and to create the new WBS node.

  14. Add further nodes as described above to get a node structure as displayed in the picture below.

  15. Click the Flat View check box in the middle section of the screen to display a flat view of the WBS.

  16. Close the screen by selecting File > Close All or Close from the main menu.
