The assembly commodity code must now be linked to a commodity geometric by means of a geometric relation in order for the software to build idents for this commodity code. Commodity geometric relations are defined and created on the S.40.21 Geometric Rules screen.

In the first (Geometric Rule) block, enter the rule name in the Rule field, select NONE from the LOV in the Def. Formula field, and enter rule descriptions or comments in the Short Comment and Comment fields.

In the second (Geometric Rule Definition) block, you define the rule details that are used to generate the geometric relation. Enter a sequence number in the No. field. Select the commodity group from the LOV in the Group field and the commodity part from the LOV in the Part field. To restrict the rule to particular commodity codes, you can either select a commodity code from the LOV in the Commodity Code field, or assign commodity attributes to the rule by selecting table names, table groups, and table details in the Used Tables and Groups section. For this example, we do not restrict the rule to particular commodity codes, which means the rule is applied to all commodity codes for the selected part.

Next, select the geometric that should be linked to the commodity codes from the LOV in the Geometric field. The value NONE in the Formula field is copied from the rule. The Ident check box indicates that the selected geometric is used to build idents.

After saving the changes, click the Commodity Relation button on the left.

The software creates geometric relations for all associated commodity codes. The result can be displayed on the S.40.22 Commodity Geometric Relation screen. You can open this screen using the fastcall from S.40.21. Enter the commodity group (ASSEMBLY) in the Group field, and click the Run Query button. Select the part (FLG-ASS) in the Part field, and click the Next Block button to open Window 2, where the commodity geometric relations are displayed.

The first block shows the commodity codes that have a relation to a geometric. The geometrics are displayed in the second block, with their geometric details in the third block.

Before you create assemblies, you should be familiar with the creation of standard catalog items. When creating assemblies, do NOT build idents for the assemblies on the S.80.01 screen, because this action does not create the ident structure.
