Smart Materials/Smart Reference Data Version
10.1

All PLL interface operations can be initiated and controlled in the screen [L.30.01].

Here you can setup job definitions, start PLL jobs online or in JCS batch mode, and check the outcome of job execution, the PLL main import log file with the detailed import protocol and error protocol.

Before you can work with PLL for the first time you have to provide following values for DBA setting in screen [A.60.04] - DBA Settings:

  • RBS_PLL

Globally specifies a rollback segment that is dedicated to PLL import jobs. If this is not configured, the Oracle server will assign a rollback segment to PLL transactions randomly. Use of this option requires that one or more rollback segments with sufficient space are created and brought online. Furthermore, all directories that Smart Materials needs for its log files should be configured correctly in the instance initialization parameter file (init.ora).

  • PLL_IMPORT_PATH

Specifies the global default directory for PLL.

  • JCS_USER_STATUS

Controls whether the JCS scheduling parameter screen is shown or not prior to submitting a batch job.

PLL import job is defined by entering a new record in L.30.01:

In the upper area of the first window, you define all parameters that are necessary to start an import job. In the lower area, various kinds of control information can be displayed on demand, e.g. you can display the log file for online execution here.

When loading, the data will be tested whether lines already exist with this status [L.10.01] in Process Unit. If it participates the case, so you can either replace all data with it or update.

When you have supplied all job parameters, you can start the PLL job either online or in batch. The 'Start Batch' button will of course only be available if JCS is installed; otherwise, it will be grayed out and disabled. For batch execution, you will be prompted for additional scheduling parameters if in A.60.04 the setting JCS_USER_STATUS is set to advanced; otherwise, your PLL job will be handed over to JCS directly without prompting for parameters, scheduled for immediate background execution.

When an online import job has finished, you can review the log files with the import protocol that has been created:

The PLL online log will include several execution statistics, as well as a short summary of data related problems or data errors that the main import program may have encountered.

If your PLL job executed in JCS batch, the output handling for the main log file will be handled by the JCS I/O subsystem; for this reason, no online log file can be created by the main program. Instead, this information will then be available either through the Smart Materials JCS Job monitor screen A.60.41 (which you can call directly with the 'JCS Monitor'-button; or you can review it through the JCS Control Center tool, given that execution rights for this tool have been granted to you. In this tool, use the job monitor menu entry, then select the PLL master script, press the right mouse button and in the context menu, select Job details. This will display the master script control output.

See the Error Codes section in the More Information section of the PLL for inquiries and orders for analyzing the error numbers in the error log file.

Each record that has been processed successfully is committed to the database. In other words, it may be that a new order is inserted but only 3 out of 10 dns that were in the import file have been inserted because the other ones were erroneous. In this case, you have to modify the data provided in the import file and start PLL again.

The L.30.01 PLL Import Job screen consists of the following two blocks.

Job Information Block

The Job Information block contains the following fields:

  • Job Code: The name of the import job. It must be unique within a project and action.

  • Job Status: This field indicates the status of the job currently being displayed.

Possible values are:

  • NEW

  • SCHEDULED

  • STARTED

  • RUNNING

  • READY - PROCESSING

  • ERROR - PROCESSING

  • READY - IMPORT

  • ERROR - IMPORT

  • Status: Short name describing the process line status [L.10.01]. LOV available.

  • Action: If you start the import job, line information will be updated or overwrite.

  • Populate Attribute?: If this box is checked, by insert all attributes for process line and nominal size will be populated from the unit set [L.10.04].

  • Import Path: The directory where the import file is stored.

For online import in a non-web environment, this must be a directory on your local file system, whereas for online import in a web environment, this must be a directory on your web server.

For import in JCS batch, it must be a directory on the server.

  • Import File: The name of the import file.

When working in a web environment the extension of the file must be '.xml'. In a client-server environment the extension is of no importance.

  • Default Dir / Upload: If you are working in a client-server environment, this button has the label 'Default Dir'.

Press this button to fill the field 'Import Path' with the default directory on the DB server.

This default directory is defined in A.60.04 DBA Settings. The name of the setting is PLL_IMPORT_PATH.

When working in a web environment the label is 'Upload'. If you press the button, a file selection dialog opens. Selecting a file will send the file to the application server. After you have uploaded the file, it will be transferred automatically to the DB server.

  • User Comment: You may enter a free format comment of up 80 characters for each PLL import job.

Job Execution Statistics Block

The Job Execution Statistics block contains the following fields:

  • Job Start User: Smart Materials user who started this import job.

  • JCS Job ID: JCS job identifier if job has been executed in JCS batch

If your job ran in batch, this field will display the internal JCS job id; also, the button 'JCS Monitor' will be enabled and when pressed, will call the A.60.41 screen with the job data queried automatically.

  • Start Date: Date and time when the PLL job was started.

  • End Date: Date and time when the PLL job was finished.

  • MARIAN Logfile: Name of the internal logfile created by Smart Materials for online jobs.

If the PLL job ran online and you have setup the parameter 'PLL_IMPORT_PATH' in A.60.04, PLL will generate a log file and display the path and the name of this file in this field. You are then able to retrieve and review the log file from the server by pressing the button 'View Online Log'.

If your job ran in batch, then this field will be empty, as all I/O processing is handled by JCS; i.e. your log file will be available for review in A.60.41-JCS Jobs as well as from the JCS Control Center application.

  • Execution Summary: A short description of the job execution.

Job Control Block

The Job Control block contains the following fields:

  • Start Online: Press this button to start your import job online.

  • Start Batch: Press this button to start your PLL job in JCS batch.

  • View Online Log: This button allows you to retrieve the log file from the server.

  • View Error Log: Retrieve Smart Materials error file

  • JCS Monitor: Pressing this button invokes the A.60.41-JCS Jobs screen.
