In Smart Licensing Client, you can check out licenses when you're going to be working offline. When you're back online, you can check the licenses back in.

The check out and check in operations that you do in Smart Licensing Client apply to all users on a device, which can be a physical computer or a virtual computer.

Checkout and virtual environments

  • Checkout is supported on Hyper-V, XenServer, and VMware ESXi. However, checkout is not supported in all virtual environments.

  • If licenses are checked out on a virtual machine in the cloud, such as Microsoft Azure, be sure to shut down the virtual machine in Windows before stopping the machine in the cloud. Otherwise, the checked out licenses may be lost and not available for use until they have expired.

  • If you are checking out a license for more than 12 hours, it takes 2 licenses for the CS: 12 hour Continuous Concurrent license type.

  • If your keystore has a CS license start time set, you can check out a license for the time left on a CS license at the time of check out. This is limited to maximum of 11 hours only. To check out the licenses for a longer period, you must generate an Smart Licensing key in another keystore that does not have a CS license start time enabled.

  • With Smart Licensing Client, you no longer need to use the SmartPlant License Manager (SPLM) Checkout Utility.

  • Environment variables are not honored when licenses are checked out.
