Smart Instrumentation Version
2018 (12.0)

. For versions of SmartPlant Instrumentation 2016 and earlier, you must upgrade to version 2016 SP1 before upgrading to Smart Instrumentation 2018.

After the SmartPlant Instrumentation 2016 database upgrade to 2016 SP1 is complete, you must upgrade the Microsoft SQL Server to version 2014 SP2 or 2016.

Smart Instrumentation 2018 requires Microsoft SQL Server 2014 SP2 or 2016. In order to upgrade to Microsoft SQL Server 2014 SP2 or 2016, you must already have installed Microsoft SQL Server 2008, 2012 or 2014.

Before starting the initialize process make sure that all the required drivers are available and configured on the local machine where Smart Instrumentation 2018 and the Microsoft SQL 2014 SP2 or 2016 client are installed.

In addition to having Microsoft SQL 2014 SP2 or 2016 client installed on your local machine, you must also have Microsoft SQL client 2008 or 2012 installed on your local machine (the version depends on the source database you are upgrading from).

2008_2014

  • Without the correct drivers, the initialize process will fail.

  • If you have already upgraded to Microsoft SQL Server 2014 SP2 or 2016, all you need to do is install Smart Instrumentation 2018 and run the upgrade on Smart Instrumentation.

  • For the correct SQL Server Native Client version, refer to the: Hexagon PP&M Compatibility Matrix, available on the Smart Community Web Site.
