When choosing a package for the comparison source for which the file path length exceeds 260 characters, you must enable long file paths on your computer. You must perform both procedures below where the settings for enabling long file paths have been disabled for some reason.

Registry changes

  1. In the Registry Editor, navigate to the key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem

  2. In the right pane, find the value named LongPathsEnabled. If this value does not exist, do the following:

    1. Right-click the FileSystem key.

    2. Click New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.

    3. Name the new value LongPathsEnabled.

  3. Double-click LongPathsEnabled and in the Value data box, change the value from 0 to 1.

Modify Local Group Policy settings

  1. In the Windows search box, type gpedit.

  2. Select Edit group policy.

  3. In the Local Group Policy Editor, drill down in the left pane to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Filesystem.

  4. In the right pane, double-click Enable Win32 long paths.

  5. In the dialog box that opens, select Enabled.
