After installing Smart Electrical Web API, you need to configure it before you can start using it to send requests. Most of the required configuration is done using the Intergraph Smart® Configuration Utility, which includes the modules required for your application. There are also optional configurations such as setting automatic deletion of temporary files and generating common metadata for item properties.

For Smart Electrical Web API software versions up to and including 2.0.2, before using the Smart Configuration Utility to configure your Web API server, you must open the Intergraph.Configuration.Utility.exe.config file, which is located in the installation folder path ..SEL WEB API\V2.0\ConfigurationTool and assign values for the following keys under the <appSettings> section:

<!--// Change installDir to match your API installation folder (where web.config resides)-->

<add key="installDir" value="" />

<add key="serviceManagerUrl" value="" />

For example:

<add key="installDir" value="C:\Program Files (x86)\SmartPlant\SEL WEB API\V2.0\" />

<add key="serviceManagerUrl" value="https://sam.yourdomain.com/sam/users/v2/" />

In later versions of the software, the values for the above keys are set automatically during the setup.

Here is a three minute video that shows how to configure Smart Electrical Web API to work with your site and to obtain a valid authentication token for sending requests (the example shown is for Intergraph Smart® P&ID Web API).
