When you work in Smart Construction, you must select a scope to work in. Like SmartPlant Foundation, setting a scope allows you to view, create, modify, and terminate data within the context of a specific configuration. You can select one plant for your query and create scope. Smart Construction does not support multiple scopes. For more information about active scope in SmartPlant Foundation, see Setting the active scope.

Smart Construction uses the SmartPlant Foundation scope

The Smart Construction project scope uses the SmartPlant Foundation active scope. Smart Construction supports SmartPlant Foundation plant-level configurations, not project-level. If your SmartPlant Foundation scope is set at the project level and not the plant level, Smart Construction automatically sets your scope to the plant level, and the scope is updated in SmartPlant Foundation.

You can select your scope from the Project Select dialog box in the Smart Construction client if there are multiple configurations available for your site.

Setting your create scope to configuration top

If you are creating administration items or configuration-independent objects, we recommend that you set your create scope to the top-level configuration. You can do this by selecting the Scope Not Set option in SmartPlant Foundation.

We recommend you set your scope to the configuration top when you attach files to a Smart Construction configuration document. For more information, see Attach template files to configuration documents.
