When should I configure rules of progress locally?

You can configure rules of progress data locally from the web site folder on the Smart Construction server in order to test and validate the data prior to storing the storing and managing the ROP Configuration.xlsm workbook file and XML file as a configuration document in SmartPlant Foundation Desktop Client.

We recommend that you store and manage your rules of progress data in SmartPlant Foundation Desktop Client. For more information, see Attach the ROP Configuration workbook and XML files to the Rules of Progress configuration document.

  • If testing and validating rules of progress data locally, each site must have its own ROP Configuration.xlsm workbook file. An ROP Configuration.xlsm workbook file cannot be shared among multiple sites.

  • To return to using the stored Rules of Progress configuration documents in SmartPlant Foundation, open SmartPlant Foundation Server Manager, clear the value for the SPCRulesOfProgressPath property, and recycle the Internet Information Services (IIS) application pools for your project's site. For more information on resetting IIS application pools, see IIS documentation. For more information, see Configure the rules of progress in the rules of progress configuration workbook.

  1. Browse to the Templates\ROP Configuration folder in the installation location. For example, browse to [Drive]:\Program Files\SmartConstruction\Templates\ROP Configuration to find ROP Configuration.xlsm.

  2. Copy the ROP Configuration.xlsm workbook file to the site folder on the Smart Construction server. For example, browse to [Drive]:\SmartPlant Foundation Server Files\Web_Sites\<Web Site Name>.

  3. Configure your rules of progress data. For more information, see the Edit and add rules of progress data for component classes section of Configure the rules of progress in the rules of progress configuration workbook.

  4. Open the Main tab of the workbook.

  5. Click Generate Configuration File to generate the XML mapping to be used during retrieve.

  6. Open SmartPlant Foundation Server Manager.

  7. In your site settings, specify the location and name of the generated XML mapping in the SPCRulesofProgressPath property.

The file must be stored on the Smart Construction server, and the file name must be ROP.xml.

  8. Recycle the Internet Information Services (IIS) application pools for your project site. For more information on resetting IIS application pools, see IIS documentation.

  9. Retrieve documents in Smart Construction or refresh work steps in the Smart Construction client. For more information, see Refresh work steps in an IWP or Getting Data into Smart Construction.
