When you add components to an IWP, the drawing associated with the added components are also added to the IWP.

Drag components from the model to the Components section of an IWP

  1. Open an IWP and click Components.

  2. Open a model.

  3. In the model, use Select to click the component you want to add to the IWP. To select multiple components, press SHIFT + Select .

  4. Drag the selected component or components to the Components section of the IWP.

  5. Click Refresh to update the components list.

  • Undock your window from the main application window. You can resize your windows in order to view the open IWP and the model at the same time.

  • You can also drag components to an IWP in the Work Packages browser at the bottom of the open model.

Add components from multiple models to one IWP

  • Undock your IWP window and model windows from the main application window. You may need to resize your windows in order to view the open IWP and models at the same time.

  • You can also drag components to an IWP in the Work Packages browser at the bottom of the open model.

  1. Open models that have the components you want to add to your IWP.

  2. Open an IWP and click Components.

  3. In the first model, use Select to click the component you want to add to the IWP. To select multiple components, press SHIFT + Select .

  4. Drag the selected component or components to the Components section of the IWP.

  5. Repeat until all components from the open models are added to the IWP.

  6. Click Refresh to update the components list.

Add 2D drawing components to an IWP

  1. Open an IWP and click Components.

  2. Open a drawing.

  3. Using Select , click the component you want to add to the IWP. To select multiple components, press SHIFT + Select .

  4. Drag the selected component or components to the Components section of the IWP to add the components and drawing.

  5. Click Refresh to update the components list.

  • Undock your windows from the main application window. You may need to resize your windows in order to view the open IWP and the drawing at the same time.

  • You can also drag the components from a drawing to an IWP in the Work Packages browser at the bottom of the open drawing.

Add filtered components to an IWP

  1. Open an IWP.

  2. Open a model or a drawing.

  3. Add a filter to the model or drawing. For more information, see Filter a 3D model or Filter a 2D drawing.

  4. Select a filter name on the Applied Filters group with your mouse or pointing device to select filtered components.

  5. Using Select , drag the selected components to the Components section of the IWP.

  6. Click Refresh to update the components list.

  • You can also drag the component to an IWP in the Work Packages browser at the bottom of the open model or drawing.

  • You can also drag a filter name from the Applied Filters group on the model or drawing Toolbox to an IWP.

Add components to an IWP using a selection rule

  1. Open an IWP.

  2. Open a model or a drawing.

  3. Click Open selection rules on the Toolbox.

  4. Select a selection rule from the Selection rule list. Components associated with the selected rule are available for selection.

  5. Select components. The selected component displays in the Selection Results list.

  6. Click Expand to view search results in the Selection Results list.

  7. Drag the selection results to the Components section of the open IWP.

  8. Click Refresh to update the components list.

SHARED Tip You can also drag the component to an IWP in the Work Packages browser at the bottom of the open model or drawing.

Add 3D model components to an IWP using the Get objects by volume selection

The Get Components option selects visible components. As a result, you can use filters and the Hide option on the Applied Filters group to narrow or broaden components in the Selection Results list.

  1. Open an IWP.

  2. Open a model.

  3. Click Get Objects by Volume volume box on the 3D model Toolbox to open the Get [Object] by Volume dialog box and the Clip Volume dialog box.

    The name of the Get [Object] by Volume dialog box dynamically changes based on the selected selection rule.

  4. Select a selection rule from the Selection Rule list on the Get [Object] by Volume dialog box.

  5. From the Clip Volume dialog box, select the face or corner (faces) that you want to size. The following example shows the Top Front Right plane faces have been selected.

  6. Click and drag the slider up to increase the clip volume box size, or down to reduce the size as needed.

  7. Click Get Objects on the Get [Object] by Volume dialog box to retrieve a list of all components contained in the Clip Volume box.

    SHARED Tip When the clipping volume is at the required size and location, click Clipping Control 3DVC_BTN_clip in the Clip Volume dialog box. All objects that are not in the clip volume box are removed from the display.

  8. Click Expand to view search results in the Volume Results list.

  9. Drag selection results to the Components section of the open IWP.

  10. Click Refresh to update the components list.

SHARED Tip You can also drag components to an IWP in the Work Packages browser at the bottom of the open model.

Add Quick Find search results to an IWP

  1. Open an IWP.

  2. Open a 3D model or 2D drawing.

  3. Click Open Quick Find on the 3D model or 2D drawing Toolbox.

  4. On the Quick Find dialog box, enter an item name in the Item name box.

    SHARED Tip You can use wildcards to narrow search results. ? finds any single character. * and % find any string of characters.

  5. Select an item type from the Item type list.

  6. Click Search.

  7. Click Expand to view search results in the Results list.

  8. Click Expand to view a list of components in a drawing, spool, or assembly.

  9. Click Fit to Component to fit the model to an assembly, component, drawing, or spool in the Results list.

  10. Select Actions > Properties to view a list of properties.

  11. Select Actions > Drawings to display any drawings related to the component, assembly, or spool. Select a drawing name to open the drawing.

  12. Click Open in New Window to open a drawing in a new window.

  13. Click a component, assembly, drawing, or spool name in the Results list and drag it to the Components section of the open IWP.

  14. Click Refresh to update the components list.

SHARED Tip You can also drag the component to an IWP in the Work Packages browser at the bottom of the open model or drawing.

Add spool components to an IWP

  1. Open in IWP.

  2. Open a model or a drawing.

  3. Using Select , right-click a component in the model or drawing and select Spools.

  4. Select a spool name to open the Spool Components dialog box.

  5. Select a component on the Spool Components dialog box.

  6. Drag the component to the Components section of the open IWP.

  7. Click Refresh to update the components list.

  • When you add a spool to an IWP or view a spool in a model or drawing, Smart Construction treats the spool as it was modeled in the authoring tool. For example, if supports were included as part of a spool, Smart Construction adds supports to an IWP as part of the spool and displays the supports as part of the spool.

  • You can configure Smart Construction to display both the current spool and any superseded versions of the spool. On some construction projects, fabrication might require modifications to the engineering data. For more information, see Plan components with fabrication changes.

SHARED Tip You can also drag the component to an IWP in the Work Packages browser at the bottom of the open model or drawing.
