When should I use subfilters in a model or drawing?

You should use subfiltering when you want to create layers of filters in order to display a particular view of project data in a model or drawing.

For example, if you want to see all components in the equipment discipline that are not in an IWP, you could first apply the discipline filter Equipment to a model. After you apply the filter, the model displays all equipment components. Then, you can apply the IWP filter Components Not in an IWP as a subfilter. The model updates to display equipment components that are not in an IWP.

  • When you enable subfiltering, the components of the last applied filter are selectable. To make components of other applied filters selectable, see Change how a 3D model or 2D drawing displays.

  • Once you enable subfiltering, all previously applied filters applied to the model or drawing are subfilters.

  1. Open a model or a drawing.

  2. On the Toolbox, click Expand to expand the Applied Filters group, if not expanded already.

  3. Click a filter to the model or drawing.

  4. Add another filter (or multiple filters) to the model or drawing.

  5. Click Enable Subfiltering on the filter name to enable subfiltering for the selected filter and all previously applied filters.
