Smart 3D Version
12.1 (2019)

There are six major steps in upgrading from the 2019 releases to the 14 Update 1 release.

  1. Preparing for the Upgrade – This step includes backing up your data and verifying that the paths of reference files are correct.

  2. Upgrade your files in the SharedContent (Symbols) share – This process uses the Upgrade Shared Content Wizard, but can also be done manually. For more information, see Upgrade Procedure for the SharedContent (Symbols) Share Using the Upgrade Shared Content Wizard, Appendix: Upgrading SharedContent (Symbol) Share from Windows PowerShell, and Appendix: Upgrading SharedContent (Symbols) Share Manually.

  3. Upgrading the Databases – The software performs this process automatically. However, you can control it using the Database Wizard and the Project Management task.

  4. Synchronizing the Model with the Catalog – This step loads the Catalog database changes into the model.

  5. Regenerating the Reports Database

  6. Appendixes – The appendixes contain optional steps. After completing the upgrade process, your model should have the same functionality as it did in the 2019 release. However, to take advantage of some new features and fixes, you might have to follow the additional steps.

Microsoft Visual Basic 6 and Smart 3D

While Microsoft Visual Basic 6 is supported by Intergraph Smart 3Dx, using VB6 content causes severe performance issues. All custom content should be written Microsoft .NET Standard 2.0. This includes but is not limited to name rules, symbol definitions and so on. Custom Commands should be written using Microsoft .NET Framework for Intergraph Smart 3D. Custom Commands for Intergraph Smart 3Dx should be written in Microsoft .NET 6. If the Custom Commands are to be use in both, then they must be dual compiled between .NET Framework and .NET 6.

Interversion Updates

Version 14 updates are full builds, not hotfixes or patches. Because of this, you need to uninstall your current version 14, or 14 update, before installing the new update.

  • No database or shared content upgrade is needed from the 14 release to the 14 update 1 release.

  • No database or shared content upgrade is needed from the 14 or 14 update 1 releases to the 14 update 2 release.
