The bevel values may be calculated from either side of the plate, but they should always be applied to the weld symbol relative to the Base side. For more information, see The Weld Symbol. This is a requirement because Structural Manufacturing interprets all bevel values from the Base side.

The Reference Side parameter is used in Structural Detailing to indicate from which side of a plate the bevel values are referenced. This parameter may be more clearly thought of as the Bevel Reference. The Reference Side is identified in the Physical Connection Properties dialog box.

To apply the ReferenceSide parameter in the rules, one must consider the Base side, the Molded side, and the side to which the bevel is applied. For example, consider the following three cases:

Case 1

The bevel is cut on the AntiMolded side. The AntiMolded side is Base. Therefore, the ReferenceSide parameter is set to AntiMolded.

Case 2

The bevel is cut on the Molded side. The Molded side is Base. Therefore, the Reference Side parameter is set to Molded.

Case 3

The bevel is cut on the Molded side. The AntiMolded side is Base. This case is more complicated: the ReferenceSide parameter is set to AntiMolded, but instead of applying the bevel values to the Ref set of parameters, you can apply the value to the set of parameters denoted by Anti-Ref.
