The following procedures create a chamfer that the software can place when two plates are detailed.

Copy and Rename an Existing Chamfer Symbol

  1. Open the file using the Symbol2D environment.

  2. Delete any existing geometry from the file.

  3. Click Tools > Add-Ins, and display the Chamfer ribbon bar.

Create the Input Geometry

  1. Sketch input lines to represent the plate being chamfered and the connected plate. Put these lines on the Inputs layer.

  2. Lock the elements by clicking Lock and selecting each line.

Name the Input Geometry

  1. Right-click each input line, and select Properties.

  2. Click the User tab, and add a new Attribute set as shown.

  3. A - Type EdgeNames

  4. B - Type EdgeName

  5. C - Select Text

  6. D - Type Base

  7. Name each line as follows:

    A - Base

    B - Edge

    C - Base

Create Two Input Groups

A - Group 1

B - Group 2

Name the Support Groups

  • Click Name Inputs. Then, click Name and select the input name in the Value box. Click Apply.

    A - OppositePart

    B - Part

Sketch the Chamfer Geometry on the Default Layer

Group the Chamfer Geometry

  1. Press the CTRL key, and select the segments in a clockwise sequence.

  2. Click Group.

Constrain and Dimension the Geometry

  1. Place the dimensions on the Dimensions layer.

Assign Parameter Names

  1. Display the Properties dialog box for the symbol, and click the Parameters tab.

  2. Add parameter names to the dimensions.

The parameter names must match the names in the bulkload file.

Assign the Chamfer Geometry Group to the Contour Representation

  • Click Symbol Representation.

Save the File

  1. Save the symbol with a .SYM extension.

  2. Before you close the file, check the symbol's timestamp to verify that it was saved. If it was not, click Save As and overwrite the file.

  3. Save the file to the symbol share, under the [SharedContent Folder]\FTLibrary\Chamfer folder.

Modify the C# Rules

  • Add new Smart Items to the proper selector, then save and recompile the project.

Modify the Bulkload Spreadsheet.

  • In the [Product Folder]\ShipCatalogData\BulkLoad\DataFiles\StructDetail folder, modify the FT_SRDPlateChamferStyle1.xls and FT_SRDPlateChamferStyle2.xls files to add the new bracket.

Bulkload the Symbol

  • Bulkload in Append or Add mode.

Place the New Chamfer in the Model

  1. Place a deck.

  2. Split the deck.

  3. Change the thickness of one of the subsystems. Make it greater than the other plate's thickness by 6mm.

  4. Detail both plates to get an assembly connection, which creates a chamfer.
