Automatically creates assemblies based on predefined rules. If you select blocks before you activate the Auto Assembly command, the software adds those blocks to the blocks selected during command processing. The user-defined rule can either apply to all parts assigned to the block or only to those parts that are in the UnAssigned Parts folder. You can change the settings at any time before you run the command.

Creating Rule-based Assemblies

The assembly hierarchy for structural parts includes a multitude of assemblies and sub-assemblies, possibly many thousands per model. The Planning task provides planners with tools that can greatly reduce the time-consuming and repetitive process of creating the required sub-assemblies for structural parts. Based on the content of one or more blocks, Auto Assembly imposes rules that, as an output, create new assemblies and assign parts to them. The rules themselves are externalized as Visual Basic reference data; the Auto Assembly command merely applies these rules to a user-defined set of blocks.

Rules can be applied to all parts within the block or they can be applied to only those parts that have yet to be assigned to any assembly. Examples of rules to apply per block include the following:

  • A profile part and its parent plate is an assembly.

  • A bracket with reinforcement is an assembly.

  • The collection of parts representing a leaf plate system within a block is an assembly.

Rules in the Auto Assembly command are applied to plate parts, profile parts, edge reinforcements, brackets, and collars created in the software, and structural parts imported with the File > Import > Ship Structure command of the Tribon interface. For more information on the Tribon Interface, see the Tribon User's Guide.
