You start the Planning task by clicking Tasks > Planning. The Planning task has the following task-specific commands located on the vertical toolbar:

Select

Selects objects in the model. For more information, see Selecting Planning Objects.

Split Block

Designs new blocks by splitting existing blocks with the cutting plane.

Manage Block Intersections

Identifies the outfitting and structural parts that intersect with a block cutting plane, and allows you to assign the part to a block or split the part if it is a structural part.

New (Block) Assembly

Designs assemblies and assembly blocks and define properties for their associated building method.

Merge

Merges the content of two or more blocks, assemblies, or assembly blocks into one block or assembly.

Sequence

Defines the details of the sequence in which individual blocks, assemblies, and assembly blocks of the model structure are to be built.

Mirror Assembly

Copies a subset of the assembly hierarchy structure from one side of the model structure to the other and automatically place symmetrical parts into the mirrored assembly.

Auto Assembly

Automatically creates assemblies based on pre-defined rules.

Generate Planning Joints

Creates planning joints on the physical connections in a block, assembly, or assembly block. A planning joint breaks a physical connection into its individual manufacturing components, such as the individual fillets on a double fillet weld.

Split Planning Joint

Splits a planning joint if, for example, another weld bevel is needed.

Generate Spools

Combines pipe parts and components (such as flanges and welded valves) into spools. This command is identical to the one found in the Piping task.

Create Penetration Spools

Creates penetration spools. This special type of spool consists of one or more spools penetrating a plate part. There is a tight connection between the spools and the plate part using a penetration plate created in the Hangers and Supports task.

Generate Production Routing

Generates production data for curved parts. This command allows you to assign production information such as Workcenter or Stage Code, and assign different routing actions.

Create Common Part Managers

Processes objects and creates common part managers.

Common Part Group

Creates common part groups. Common part groups are also created as an entity during the Common Part Service process.

The Planning task has the following task-specific commands located on the Tools menu or Workspace Explorer:

Manufacturing Service Manager

Updates or reviews manufacturing objects.

Submit Batch Job

Runs batch processes using the Intergraph Batch Services framework. This command is available on the Tools menu.

Un-Split

Merges plates into a single plate leaving the seam in the model so that you can use the seam to split the plate again at a later time. For more information, see Un-split a plate at a selected seam.

Show Parts

Allows you to quickly view the parts that are directly assigned to the selected assembly. This command is available on the Tools > Assembly Views menu or on the shortcut menu of the Workspace Explorer.

Show Selected

Allows you to quickly hide all but the selected objects. This command is available on the Tools > Assembly Views menu.

Show Assembly View

Allows you to quickly display an isometric view of a selected block or assembly in its manufacturing orientation. This command is available on the Tools > Assembly Views menu or on the shortcut menu of the Workspace Explorer.

Show Assembly Sequence

Uses assembly sequence information and manufacturing orientation (the orientation, or up-vector, of an assembly while being built) to show a step-by-step animation of the assembly method for a selected block and/or assembly. This command is available on the Tools > Assembly Views menu.

Synchronize Hierarchy

Performs a bi-directional assignment of symmetrical UnAssigned Parts into symmetrically related blocks and assemblies. This command is available on the Tools > Assembly Arrangements menu.

Block Assignment

Starts and stops the Planning query process. This command is available on the Tools > Assembly Arrangements menu.

Import Assembly Data from Excel

Imports an assembly hierarchy defined in a Microsoft Excel file. You can also delete assembly hierarchies and assign parts to assembly hierarchies. This command is available on the Tools > Assembly Arrangements menu.

Common Part Service

Identifies and manages structural parts that are common within a block, assembly, or assembly block.

Common Part Explorer

Displays the common parts as groups under folders of the relevant block, assembly or assembly block. This command is available on the Tools menu or on the shortcut menu of the Workspace Explorer.

Common Part Utilities

Consists of the following common part utilities.

Test Rules

Displays the values of the properties of an object type or an XML after comparison.

Edit/Review Rule Settings

Displays the rule settings to compare objects of the same type, such as the filters and the rule variables. For more information, see Common Part Utilities.

Check Manufacturability

Analyzes pipes in the current workspace and reports the objects that will be difficult or impossible to manufacture. This command is available on the Tools menu.

Flatten Block/Assembly/Assembly Block

Removes an assembly, block, or assembly block from the assembly hierarchy without deleting its child parts, assemblies, or blocks. This command is only available for the selected block or assembly on the shortcut menu of the Workspace Explorer.

Assigning parts to blocks or assemblies in the Workspace Explorer

Allows you to assign any part to any block or assembly by a drag-and-drop operation in the Workspace Explorer.

Dual Workspace Explorers

In the Planning task, you can start a second Workspace Explorer by clicking View > Workspace Explorer 2. You can perform the following common operations within and across the Workspace Explorers:

  • Drag objects to any block or assembly within the same Workspace Explorer, the changes are also reflected on the other.

  • Drag objects to any block or assembly from one Workspace Explorer to the other. You cannot drag objects from the Assembly tab of one Workspace Explorer to the System tab of the other or vice versa.

  • Lock Tree - Select this option for a Workspace Explorer to lock its node expansion.
