The steps below summarize the workflow for extracting the .rvm and .att files from PDMS. The .rvm graphic file contains all the graphic data, and the .att data file contains all the PDMS attribute data associated with the geometry. It is important to extract the .rvm and .att files from the same PDMS hierarchy. Doing so ensures a one-to-one correlation between the objects in the .att file (if multiple .att files are not generated) and the .rvm file. In order to achieve a correct grouping of graphic objects, the attribute information of all the objects in the .rvm file must be present in the .att file.

Extract the RVM file from PDMS

  1. Select the site to export.

  2. Click Utilities > Export > Create to display the Export dialog.

  3. Specify the full path location and filename of the output .rvm file

  4. Select the Binary option.

  5. Click Add to include the selected site for export.the sites to export.

  6. For the Rule Class, select User Defined Export Rules to add new color rules for the .rvm (binary only) file.

    1. Enter the color rule class name and description.

    2. Enter the rule for the component that requires a color.

    3. Enter the rule description to identify the component.

    4. Enter the color index number for each object type.

    5. Insert the new rule and then repeat to add as many color rules as required. The new rules display in Rules Class.

  7. Click Export to extract the .rvm file. Ensure that the resulting .rvm file and its associated attribute (.att) files or .datal file have the same base file name so that Smart Interop Publisher can create the label database (.mdb2) file during the translation process.

  • There should be a one-to-one correlation between the graphic objects in the .att (if multiple .att files are not generated), or .datal files and the .rvm file. The attribute information of all the graphic objects that are in the .rvm file should be present in the .att or .datal file to achieve a correct grouping of graphic objects.

  • For more information, refer to your AVEVA PDMS documentation.

Extract the ATT file from PDMS

  1. Select the same site you selected to extract the .rvm file.

  2. Click Utilities > Export > Dump Attributes to display the Export Attribute File dialog.

  3. Specify the full path location and filename for the output .att file. The filename that you enter (minus the extension) must match the filename that you specified previously for the associated .rvm file. The enables Smart Interop Publisher to create the label database (.mdb2) file during the translation process.

  4. Click OK to output the .att file.

After you extract the .rvm and .att files, check the .att file for the following attributes:

  • Two port components:

  • Three port components:
