To place a sample Plate SmartPart delivered with the catalog:

  1. Click Tasks > Hanger and Supports.

  2. Place a design support on a pipe.

  3. Click Place Part and then select the design support.

  4. In the Select Part dialog box, select a part from Parts > SmartParts > S3D Standard > Plates > Stop Plate - Top End of Steel Section as shown below.

Part Properties

Millimeters (mm) is the default unit. Use "in" at the end of dimensional values to specify inches.

Ports are shown as points highlighted in red.

Local Coordinate System

Standard Port

The standard ports are always initially aligned with the X axis on the width of the plate shape, the Y axis is along the length of the plate shape, and the Z axis is along the thickness of the plate.

Hole Port

The hole ports are aligned so that they should easily connect to other parts that connect to a hole. The Y axis is through the hole (with the thickness of the plate shape), the Z axis is along the length of the plate towards the top, and the X axis is along the width of the plate shape.

Route Port

The route port is aligned so that you can easily connect the part to pipe. The X axis is aligned with the route, the Z axis goes towards the plate shape along the length of it, and the Y axis is along the thickness of the plate shape.

You can alter the port orientations of the plates using the various rotations that are exposed on the port properties in the XLS.
