The Point Grid Display Tab (Options Dialog Box) helps you visualize distances and proportions during the 3D modeling process. You can set the distance between the primary points as well as the number of secondary points between the primary points. The points are not locatable. They only provide a visual reference.

  1. Click Tools > Show All to display all the hidden graphics.

  2. Use Common Views to set the view to Plan, and Fit the view.

  3. On the PinPoint Ribbon, set the Coordinate System to Global, and click Set Target to Origin Set rotation triad to center of view ICON.

    • The point grid is always set relative to the global coordinate system. You cannot set the point grid relative to a designed coordinate system.

    • The point grid only displays in selected standard orthographic views and not the isometric views.

    • If multiple views are displayed, you must turn the point grid on or off in each view manually unless you create and use a view template.

  4. Click Tools > Options to display the Options Dialog Box.

  5. Click the Point Grid Display Tab (Options Dialog Box).

  6. Type 10 ft in the Primary Point Distance box and 10 in the Secondary Point Spacing box to specify secondary points at 1 foot intervals.

  7. Click OK to save the settings.

  8. Click Format > Format View to display the Format View Dialog Box.

  9. Turn on the Point Grid Display box at the bottom of the dialog box, and click OK.

The point grid displays in the selected orthographic view.

  10. Zoom in around the north end of the model and notice that the intermediate points become visible as you zoom in.

  11. On the PinPoint Ribbon, type 1 ft. in the Step box.
