  1. Open the symbol to work with.

  2. Click Symbol Properties on the Cross Section Symbols toolbar.

The Symbol Properties dialog box displays.

  3. Select the Parameters tab.

  4. Select the dimension to map from the list.

  5. In the Symbol parameter box, type the corresponding value from the Custom Interfaces sheet in the StructCrossSections.xls workbook. For example, if the symbol dimension that you selected from the list were the flange thickness, you would type FT.

  6. Click Apply.

  7. Continue mapping parameters from the workbook sheet to the symbol dimensions until all symbol dimensions are mapped.

  8. Set any other symbol properties as needed.

  9. Click File > Save.

  • You may want to print the Custom Interfaces sheet in the StructCrossSections.xls workbook for easy reference when defining symbol parameters.

  • If you have unique dimensions that are not represented on the Custom Interfaces sheet, you need to add them to the sheet, with a unique Symbol parameter designation, before you can bulk load the symbol to the catalog. Running the Add to Catalog command on the Cross Section Symbols toolbar adds any new symbol parameter to the Custom Interfaces sheet.

  • By default, the software appends an A to the attribute name for each parameter that you add by running the Add to Catalog command. You can edit this attribute name as needed to match the attribute names in the StructCrossSection.xls file by changing the names on the Parameters tab on the Add to Catalog dialog box.
