  1. Open the symbol to dimension.

  2. Click Tools > Layers to display the Layer toolbar.

The cross section template contains several different layers. Verify that you create the correct graphics on the appropriate layer. For example, you should create the dimensions on the Dimensions layer.

  3. Click Layer Status on the Layer toolbar.

  4. Double-click Dimensions in the list to make it the active layer. Verify that the words Dimensions turn red, which indicates that it is the active layer.

  5. Clear the Active layer only option, so that you can see all symbol layers, and then click Apply.

  6. Click Smart Dimension on the Dimension toolbar and dimension the detailed physical representation. If a dimension exists on the corresponding simple physical graphic, you do not need to place the same dimension on the detailed physical graphic. More than likely, the only dimensions that you need to add are for the fillets.

If the dimensions do not appear, click View > Toolbars, select the Dimension option, and then click OK.

  7. Click File > Save.

  • You use the dimensions that you define here to drive the size of the symbol.
