Profile and member cross-section geometry can be modeled to different levels of detail. This geometry is stored as separate symbol representations, or aspects, within a single symbol file. From a symbol, each task in the software uses the needed aspect. You can also choose the aspect to be displayed.

By default, the software displays members using the Simple Physical aspect.

By default, the software displays profiles in a marine mode and material handling mode database using the Detailed Physical aspect.

Simple Physical Aspect

The SimplePhysical representation is an idealized cross-section shape (that is, without any fillets or radii). This aspect is used to reduce software computations when the detailed physical geometry does not need to be displayed in the software. The software displays, by default, all members using this aspect. You can optionally display profiles using this aspect.

Detailed Physical Aspect

The DetailedPhysical symbol representation is required for all profile cross-sections in the Structural Detailing tasks. The aspect is similar to Simple Physical but is an accurate closed contour containing all edges, fillets, and radii for the cross-section and contains the primary dimensions and constraints. This aspect is not available for members.

Symbolic Aspect

The Symbolic representation contains highly idealized linear geometry and is only used for profiles in the Molded Forms task.

Symbolic representation geometry must not have closed loops.

Production Physical

The Production Physical aspect is used with member cross-sections in the Structural Manufacturing task for unfolding of the member for the Part Monitor and member sketches when the Simple Physical aspect does not reflect the expected height or width, such as when the cross-section has a slope. This aspect is not available by default. Please contact Intergraph Support if you think you need to use this aspect.

Relationship of All Representations

All representations are constrained to the same origin point and geometries in the representations are constrained to each other.
