You must duplicate some geometry and dimensions on the ProfileSketch layer so that they appear on the profile sketch drawings created in the Drawings and Reports task.

  1. Click Tools > Layers to display the Layer toolbar.

  2. Click Change Layer .

  3. On the dialog box, select ProfileSketch layer, and click OK.

  4. Sketch geometry needed for a profile sketch.

  5. Create driven dimensions by dimensioning between the ProfileSketch geometry and Input geometry. The dimensions are usually similar to the driving dimensions between the Output and Input geometry.

    • Each ProfileSketch geometry element must be connected to its equivalent original output geometry. ProfileSketch geometry elements cannot be connected to each other.

    • Create geometry elements by connecting the ends of the copy elements to the original elements.

    • For arcs, connect the ends and place tangency constraints when tangency is needed.

    • Include only the edges of the output geometry that represent the actual cut, not the entire closed contour. For example, on a slot, do not include the base plane curve or offset curve.

    • Dimensions must be driven dimensions so that they adjust as the symbol file is manipulated.

    • For flange and web cuts, the group must also include connect and length points. See End Cut ProfileSketch Points.

    • For flange cuts, do not include the web notch in the output geometry. Draw a line across the notch.

The elements do not have edge names.

  6. Group all items in the ProfileSketch layer.

SHARED Tip It is easier to select the geometry to group by having only the ProfileSketch layer displayed. Click Layer Status , and select Active layer only. This technique is very important for end cuts, where profile sketch points are coincident with points on other layers.
