For design systems that support the use of Isogen for the automatic generation of isometric drawings, you can generate used material catalogs and specifications easily and quickly. I-Convert reads the Isogen data held in the form of an Intermediate Data File (IDF) or Piping Component File (PCF) and creates Smart Isometrics material files containing all the components used in the design.

For this type of data, very little project set-up is required because all the data necessary for Smart Isometrics is contained in the IDF or PCF file. This method is by far the quickest way to get started. However, you must consider two important limitations:

  • You can create only materials previously used in design.

  • The host system internal references will not be present in the Smart Isometrics data.

  • You can always add additional components and information to overcome these two limitations.

  • PCF files are internally converted to IDF files prior to material generation.

  1. On the local machine, create the folder structure shown below:

  2. Copy the IDF or PCF files to the IDF folder.

  • A top-level project folder is mandatory, but the name is user-specified. In the example, the name of the project folder is IDF_PCF Project.

  • The Catalogues and IDF folders are mandatory, fixed-name folders.

  • Safe is an optional folder, but it is normally used to store the project (.icp) file. For more information, see Project Creation and Configuration.
