The Massage utility carries out a number of tasks to prepare the data that you extract from PDS for use by I-Convert. In addition to renaming files to use their PDS references, you can also use the utility to reformat files to account for two problems that are encountered with PDS data.

  1. As a holdover from the Clix environment, it is not uncommon for text files to be formatted without the usual Line Feed / Carriage Return combination to mark the end of a line. This causes the software to read the data incorrectly, and must be adjusted before you run the software.

  2. The PDS extraction routines split very long text strings onto two or more lines, which can cause the software to read the data incorrectly and must be adjusted.

To run the Massage.exe utility, first create a Massage.ini file, and place it in the same folder as the Massage.exe file. Because the Massage.ini file is created to match the PDS data to be processed, the specified adjustments are made when you run the Massage.exe file.

  • Only use the Massage utility with text files. Other files can be corrupted.

  • Massaging large amounts of data can take a long time. For example, PDS can create thousands of data files, which take a long time to process.
