Use the Create Excel File command to create a Microsoft Excel file that contains the differences between the selected item and the Reference File Table. The Microsoft Excel file that is created contains a tab for each type of object where one or more differences were found. Within the worksheet for each tab, a blue header row identifies the type of data for which differences were found.

Each blue row, except for the one at the top, is preceeded by exactly one empty row. These empty rows are used for parsing. Do not remove these empty rows or add any additional empty rows to the file.

Following each blue header row, except the one at the top, is a set of rows where the first cell contains either "New", "Updated", or "Deleted". This indicates the type of instruction that applies to the data in that row.

The color of the text in the row corresponds to the instruction type:

Color

Red text

Updated data

The new values for the updated properties are shown in the cell, and the old values are shown in comments that can be displayed by placing the cursor over the red triangle in the upper right corner of the cell.

The following example is a section from a typical worksheet and shows examples of new, deleted, and updated content.

InstructionFile

Open an instruction file to edit the content

After the Microsoft Excel file is created, you will be given the opportunity to open and view its contents. Alternately, you can open the instruction file outside of the Schema Editor to delete individual rows or edit specific cells for rows that indicate updates.

Apply instructions files to schema files

You can use the Update from Excel File command to open and load contents of a Microsoft Excel instruction file. Alternately, you can use the following procedure to update the schema or tool schema file using the Schema Editor.

  1. Open the file in the Schema Editor using the appropriate Open command, such as Open Schema Instructions or Open Tool Schema Instructions.

  2. Load the file into the appropriate schema or tool schema using the corresponding Apply command: Apply Schema Instructions to Schema or Apply Tool Schema Instructions to Tool Schema.
