The CFIHOS discipline Document Type (DDT) is a combination of a discipline and document type in one object and defines requirements regarding how to manage documents that have that DDT assigned. This means that the DDT holds information about the retention, for which project phases it is required, and so forth.

Example DDT

CFIHOS DDT code "HX0505" a hazard analysis report for Discipline HX (HSE)

For SDx, the DDT was not onboarded because:

  • SDx already has a concept of separate disciplines and document classifications (types,) which are both related to the document. In particular, the discipline is embedded in the process and security models of SDx. Therefore, it needs to remain in place.

  • Storing all the requirements on a DDT object is rigid, provides little flexibility, and would be difficult to use for the non-CFIHOS customers using SDx and needing functionality for retention.

  • By keeping the disciplines and document classes separated, we can accommodate non-CFIHOS customers who don’t have this strong tie between these classes.

  • Searches for documents with a specific classification can be done across disciplines, not just within a discipline.

Example of how SDx handles DDTs

CFIHOS DDT code "HX0505" a hazard analysis report for Discipline HX (HSE)

Gets stored in SDx as:

  • Discipline "HX" related to document master

  • Document class "0505" related to document master
