The Full Text Search option in the Search Bar allows you to search for text contained in objects or associated with attached files that have been indexed and managed using Full Text Retrieval (FTR).

If you want to use Full Text Retrieval (FTR), it must be configured in your system using the Desktop Client. For more information, see Configure Full Text Retrieval (FTR) . The Web Client can access a system that uses Full Text Retrieval (FTR) without any further configuration.

The FTR process indexes the object metadata and file content for faster retrieval of information. When you use the Full Text Search option, the managed index is used to list the objects by the individual words with their locations in the files.

You can use search string operators in the search bar, such as * Wildcard, And, Or, and so on. You can also use the following options to target the search content.

Select this option

To do this

PROPERTIES

Search for the text only in the properties of objects.

CONTENT

Search the content of attached files.

FULL

Search the content including the properties of objects.

The search results are returned in the FTR Search window displayed under separate tabs for each classification type, such as Documents, Tags, and so on.

  • The search result can include documents with attached files that contain text that match the search criteria. If a document contains multiple attached files, you must expand each file to find the text you searched for.

  • You can select a tab and export the search results on the current page to Excel using the ExportToExcel command. You can also export the search results on all the pages to Excel for the currently selected tab using the ExportAllToExcel command.
