When you check out a file for editing using the Edit Online option, and then close the file, you can use the View Online option to view the file and continue editing.

Select Actions
> Edit > View Online.
The file is opened for editing in a new tab on your web browser if the file type
is configured for editing in the browser by your administrator. If not, the OneDrive
directory containing the file will open.
