Start HxGN NetWorks Core | Designer and open a workspace with an active job.
If possible, create a separate job.
-
Start the command:
-
Open the Utilities tab and click Feature Switch.
-
In the menu, click Extras >Custom Command>Edit: Feature Switch.
The Feature Switch dialog is displayed.
The Configuration tab allows you to select a configuration. The configurations are grouped by a network unit (first level in the tree).
Each configuration represents transition from one network level to another.
-
Select a network unit and a network level to switch.
-
Click Next to open the Features tab.
-
Active selection in map window – When this option is selected, the features selected in the active Map window are added to the set of features for switching.
The total number of selected features and the number of valid features are displayed in the information box Selection summary at the bottom.
Only features which have valid source feature classes of the currently selected configuration are added to the selection.
The active selection can be modified anytime during the display of the Feature Switch window. The list of selected features is automatically refreshed.
-
Trace result – When this option is selected, the features for switching are taken from the trace result. Only valid source feature classes of the currently selected configuration are included.
The total number of selected features and the number of valid features are displayed in the information box Selection summary at the bottom. Furthermore, the number of features which have been selected and which are valid for the selected configuration, are displayed here.
Only those features are added to the selection which have valid source feature classes of the currently selected configuration.
-
Start trace – This command is used to define and run the trace.
-
Press Start trace.
The system is ready and waits for the selection of the Start feature.
-
Select Start feature by left-clicking the map.
-
If more than one feature is found, a selection box is displayed from which you can select the desired object.
Selected features which are not valid for the selected configuration are ignored.
If you right-click the map, the trace ends and settings are reset.
If a valid feature is selected, its name and the Feature number (Feature Instance) is displayed.
-
Click the map and select the end feature using the left mouse button. The same conditions as for the start feature are applied for the end feature.
Start and end features must not be the same.
When the end feature is selected, the system starts the trace and displays the results in the Map window.
The number of selected features and the number of valid features (that is, features which are valid for the selected configuration) are displayed in the Selection summary box at the bottom of the window.

-
Click Next to open the Parameters tab.
-
Automatically add child features using Ownership relationship – When this option is checked, the features list from the previous step is used to determine additional child features using the Ownership relationship defined for the selected configuration. The child features are also included in processing.
-
Report possibly invalid connectivity – Indicates a possible invalid Node-Edge connectivity at the end of processing. When this option is checked, a warning "Network topology my contain errors" in the Results tab is displayed for each feature which belongs to the same network unit, but is connected to a different network level. Afterwards, you should review individual errors and correct them manually.
This parameter can be deactivated (table GIN_GUI_ACCESS).
-
-
Click Next to go to the Value mapping tab.
In this tab, you can perform the following actions:
-
Determine which attribute values do not have a configured mapping.
-
Assign a destination mapped value.
-
Automatically assign the same value (source value = destination value)
-
Edit configuration of existing attribute value mapping.
Missing mappings – if checked, lists all attribute values of the selected features for which there is no configured target value in the current configuration. The result is displayed in the grid. The missing values can be configured. (See the workflow To create or change an attribute value assignment).
All missing mappings must be configured before starting Feature Switch, otherwise, the process will end with errors and the changes will be rolled back.
Configured mappings – if checked, displays all configured mappings from GIN_FEATURE_SWITCH_ATT for the selected configuration. The existing mappings can be changed, see the workflow below.
To create or change an attribute value assignment:
-
-
Select option Missing mappings or Configured mappings, depending on the requested functionality.
-
Left-click a row in the grid with attribute value mappings to display mapping details in the Source and Destinations sections at the bottom.
If the option Missing mappings is selected, only attributes without a configured destination value are displayed. The column Source value in the table is filled, the column Destination value is empty. Also, the Source section at the bottom is filled and the Destination section is empty.
If the option Configured mappings is selected, all previously configured mappings and mappings with a configured destination value are displayed. The columns Source value and Destination value are filled and the Source and Destination sections are filled as well.
You can configure or change the destination value in three ways:
-
To set the Destination value equal to the Source value, right-click the selected row(s) in the grid (table) and select Assign same value from the context menu.
The Destination value is automatically set to the same value as the Source value and the change is saved to the database.
-
For attributes without a picklist or foreign key table, type in the destination value directly. Confirm changes by pressing Enter in the text box for the destination Value.
-
For attributes with a foreign key table or picklist defined, click Pick value… to open the Foreign / domain table query form.
An assignment can be selected in the grid view and accepted by clicking OK.
-
-
Click Next to open the Execute tab.
In this tab, a summary of the current configuration, features, and execution parameters are displayed.
-
Check if the displayed data is correct. Click Start to execute the Feature Switch command.
The process is executed in the database, therefore the window may become unresponsive until the processing is finished. HxGN NetWorks may display additional windows. In such cases, follow instructions displayed on the screen.
If the database part of Feature Switch completes successfully, the system forces execution of HxGN NetWorks Interfaces in the newly created features and displays processing results in the Results tab.
In the Summary box, an information about the possible errors is displayed:
-
Feature switch completed without errors – this message is displayed when no errors occurred during processing
-
Feature switch completed with errors – this message is displayed when at least one error occurred during processing
-
If any warnings occurred during processing, an information appears and individual messages are displayed in the grid. The features are switched, but objects with warnings must be manually verified.
If you right-click the grid, you can export its content to Microsoft Excel or PDF.
