From the record view of the Web Service Prompt screen enter the code and description that will be used to identify the user defined screen. It is important to give some thought when naming the prompt. The web service prompt description entered will be the screen name displayed in the menu structure and at the top of the screen when opened for use.

Select the Type of web service prompt you are creating. If the screen will stand by itself select ‘stand-alone screen’. If you intend to attach the prompt as a tab to a base product screen or user-defined grid, select ‘tab on screen’. If ‘tab on screen’ is selected a Parent Screen must be associated. This will be the screen on which the prompt will appear as a tab.

When the record is saved the system immediately creates a record in the Screens table for ‘stand-alone screen’ prompts. The Screen record will be of Class ‘WSP’ (web service prompt) and cannot be seen in the grid. Nevertheless, it exists in the much the same way as any normal screen within the application.

We will elaborate more on the Retrieved Values tab further below.

The web service prompt description can be updated later if you change your mind, causing the Screen description to be updated accordingly in the database; however, the screen using the previous name must be removed from any user group menus and the screen with the new name added for the updated name to appear in the menus. The updated screen name will appear on the prompt screen once navigated to.

The Out of Service check box can be checked to remove the web service prompt record from lookups throughout the application. If the prompt screen was already in one or more user group menus when marked ‘out of service’, users can still navigate to and use the screen as normal until it is removed from the menu.

The web service prompt screen has a cascade delete feature. Once your intention to delete the web service prompt is confirmed the system will automatically delete all detail records (data on all web service prompt tabs) associated with the prompt. The system will not allow a prompt to be deleted if the associated screen is in a user menu. The menu record must be removed prior to deletion.

A web service prompt can only be associated, as a tab, to base screens that are standard list view / record view screens and list view type user-defined grids.

A web service prompt cannot be associated, as a tab, to screens that are not designed for tabs that is, stand-alone list views, record views, or list-detail views.

A web service prompt cannot be associated, as a tab, to UDGs whose Type is ‘alert management’ or ‘tab’.

A Copy Web Service Prompt feature is provided via the right click menu. The pop-up in the Copy Web Service Prompt allows the user to rename the prompt as well as select which details should be copied. Since some tab data is dependent on other tabs, copy restrictions are imposed. For example, Web Services and Fields must be copied if Retrieved Values are copied. If Fields are copied, then Web Services must be copied.
