To support search in regional languages, such as Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, you must customize locale settings as follows:

  1. If your operating system is in English, you need to set the Regional and Language Options. If you are already using a localized operating system, skip this step.

    1. From Control Panel, open Regional and Language Options.

    2. On the Regional Options tab, select your regional language for Standards and formats.

    3. On the Advanced tab, select your regional language for Language for non-Unicode programs.

For example, to support Japanese, you must select Japanese for the above settings.

  2. Use an appropriate localized ftmf filter for documents that contain text in regional languages. For instructions, see Setting Filter for Object File Type.

    The following are some examples.

    Language

    Filter

    Chinese

    ftmf/c=u/i=GB2312_UCS2

    Japanese

    ftmf/c=u/i=EUC_JP_UCS2

    Korean

    ftmf/c=u/i=KSC_5601_1992_UCS2

  3. Configure the locale settings, such as Locale List, Character Code, Default Locale, and Attribute Locale, for the FTR server by using the FTR Server Configuration command.

You must set these locale settings to the locale of your regional language. You must use the same value for both Default Locale and Attribute Locale. The Character Code value must match the Default Locale and Attribute Locale settings.

    The following are some examples.

    Chinese

    Japanese

    Korean

    Local List

    cn_CN

    jp_JP

    Ko_ko

    Character Code
