A forecast’s adjustment is applicable only in the context of time-phased forecasts. Adjustments are ETC transactions created to preserve EAC caused by unexpected actuals (actuals that do not match an object’s Resource, Cost Account, and UOM) or changes to EAC as a function of the Forecast Method.

If the approval of forecast variances for one or more periods was skipped, the adjustments for the selected project period will include unexpected actuals for all skipped periods as well as the current period’s unexpected actuals.

Adjustment Methods must be established at the beginning of the first project forecast and can be changed at any time during the life of a project. If no method is assigned to a cost control object, the system will default the method Adjustment to Time-Phasing End. Available methods include:

  • Adjustment to Time-Phasing End: The project period Costs, Quantity, and Hours variance are spread beginning from the next project period through the cost control object’s time-phased end date. Time-Phasing Dates are required. If ETC remains after the Time-Phase End Date has passed, ETC will be passed to the next period.

  • Adjustment to Next: The project period Costs, Quantity, and Hours variance are moved to the next project period.

  • Adjustment to Future Periods: The project period Costs, Quantity, and Hours variance are spread across the number of periods entered in the Balance Periods column, beginning with the next project period.

  • Adjustment to Year End: The project period Costs, Quantity, and Hours variance is spread from the next project period through the Project End Date or end of current year, whichever comes first.

This method cannot be used in the last month of the year (December).

You can update the adjustment methods in the two ways listed below:

  • From the Forecast tab

  • From the Time-Phasing tab: Click the New EAC hyperlink to display the Forecast Balance and Adjustment dialog box.

Forecast Adjustment Method and Adjustment Periods options are available only for CCL objects. For Non-CCL objects, Refresh Forecast Adjustment option adjusts all the children of WBS.
