The HxGN SDx Web Client server can be hosted on the application server or on a separate machine. HxGN SDx Web Client uses a specific set of API Services on the application server to communicate with the database.

If the Web Client is to be implemented as a public-facing Internet site, or if your site needs to pass network penetration tests, you should not use the built-in Intergraph Authorization Server to authenticate communication with HxGN SDx. Instead, we recommend using Intergraph Smart API Manager to authenticate communication via API Services, or you can use another third-party authorization product of your choice. Hardware Recommendations

  • 4 core high-end server processor

  • 16 GB RAM

  • 5 GB free disk space for software installation

  • DVD drive access, either locally or through a network connection (for installation media)

Server hardware sizing depends on many factors, such as the number of concurrent users per site and the size of the project database. Contact your services team for specific server hardware sizing recommendations for your project.

Supported operating systems

Microsoft Windows Server 2019 (64-bit) Datacenter or Standard edition

  • The Web Server (IIS) role must be installed. In addition to the default settings, include:

    • Common HTTP Features > Static Content

    • Security > Basic Authentication

    • Application Development

      • .NET Extensibility 4.7

      • ASP.NET 4.7

  • The .NET Framework 4.7 feature must be installed. In addition to the default settings, include:

    • WCF Services

      • HTTP Activation

      • Named Pipes Activation

      • TCP Activation

  • The Windows Process Activation Service feature must be installed. In addition to the default settings, include:

    • Process Model

    • Configuration APIs

  • The Distributed Transaction Coordinator is now installed by default as part of the operating system. This service must be enabled and running for support of 32-bit COM+ application installation.

  • Windows Server 2019 is supported with UAC enabled and set to Level 3 (Default).

Be sure to install the most recent Microsoft security patches, available from http://www.microsoft.com/.

Software prerequisites

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8

  • A web browser is required in order to view the online documentation from this server.

SmartPlant Markup Plus

The following is not required to be installed locally if there is an existing installation already on the application server.

For Updates 36 and later, SmartPlant Markup Plus Server is no longer required. The PDFTron view control is used for View and Markup of third-party and some Hexagon file formats. For more information, see Important news about compatible software and related tools.

For Updates 35 and earlier, SmartPlant Markup Plus Server is required on the servers where the HxGN SDx Server and Remote Services components are installed. If these components are installed on separate servers, SmartPlant Markup Plus Server is required on both servers.
